Serafima Darova
Contact Improvisation
Contact improvisation dancer, teacher, and community builder. Facilitator of weekly jams and organizer of festivals, workshops, intensives, and other creative projects. My passion is creating and developing contact improvisation communities. I built the CI community in Crimea from 2019 and am currently focused on Bali.
I'm inspired by the history of contact improvisation, analyzing its origins and current trends. Beyond CI, I'm interested in Axis Syllabus and Gaga techniques. My journey with contact improvisation began in 2012, leading to a lifelong love for the practice.
My background includes contemporary dance training from age 7, studying at the jazz-modern school-studio of Nikolay Ogryzkov in Moscow and the modern dance school of Natalya Fiksel. I've participated in numerous intensives and workshops with international teachers.
I've worked in various Moscow theaters, performing in productions by Vladimir Chekasina, Natalya Fiksel, and Sergey Starostin. My international experience includes work with Jungle Dance Theatre in India and Daniell Alnuma Dance Theater Company in France. Notable performances include "The Sea" (2016), "Body of Nobody" (2017), "Gala Show" (2017-2019), "Intensive – Games of Transformation" (2018), and "Night Distances" (2019).
For five years, I served as the chief organizer of the concert venue "Ash Arambol" in India.
