Contact Improvisation
My profession and passion is to dance and to share the dance with others. That’s what I do through teaching, performing, writing and organizing. In the beginning I was mainly driven by creating dance and theatre pieces, bringing improvisation on stage. A while back teaching CI has become my main field of exploration, which I began in 1995 – and now it lets me travel the whole world. Developmental movement patterns, an anatomical focus on the skeleton and the fascia system, Capoeira, Release Techniques and many kinds of sports have guided my understanding of the moving body.

Originally I am from Germany but now based in Australia. I regularly return to Europe to dance, teach and research.

I am driven by curiosity and discovery and intend to infect my students with this spark.

My aim is to create alive spaces, where people find enough trust to manoeuvre themselves towards the unknown, where the learning and the growing happens in a safe environment, partly with a smell of disorientation, discomfort and excitement.

I foster the polarity of detailed and precise work that brings us to the edge of what we can perceive and on the other hand rather open frames where the new information can unfold by letting it go.

Contact Improvisation
Contact improvisation dancer, teacher, and community builder. Facilitator of weekly jams and organizer of festivals, workshops, intensives, and other creative projects. My passion is creating and developing contact improvisation communities. I built the CI community in Crimea from 2019 and am currently focused on Bali.

I'm inspired by the history of contact improvisation, analyzing its origins and current trends. Beyond CI, I'm interested in Axis Syllabus and Gaga techniques. My journey with contact improvisation began in 2012, leading to a lifelong love for the practice.

My background includes contemporary dance training from age 7, studying at the jazz-modern school-studio of Nikolay Ogryzkov in Moscow and the modern dance school of Natalya Fiksel. I've participated in numerous intensives and workshops with international teachers.

I've worked in various Moscow theaters, performing in productions by Vladimir Chekasina, Natalya Fiksel, and Sergey Starostin. My international experience includes work with Jungle Dance Theatre in India and Daniell Alnuma Dance Theater Company in France. Notable performances include "The Sea" (2016), "Body of Nobody" (2017), "Gala Show" (2017-2019), "Intensive – Games of Transformation" (2018), and "Night Distances" (2019).

For five years, I served as the chief organizer of the concert venue "Ash Arambol" in India.

Bethany Burton
Water CI
Bethany is an interdisciplinary creative, a lifelong student of movement, and a creature of the water—hailing from turtle island. Her excitement for dance brought her to study at the Indonesian Academy of Arts in 2016, where she began ongoing collaborations with international and Indonesian artists and performers around the volcano-dotted island of Java.

Over the course of a decade she’s passionately studied traditional/contemporary dance and martial arts, as well as the therapeutic practices of yin yoga, freediving, contact improvisation and Aquatic Bodywork (Healing Dance).

Since moving to the mystic waters of Bali, Bethany has co-founded Inner Ocean Collective, a women centered cooperative of somatic movement facilitators, aquatic bodyworkers, and sound healers, together utilizing water as a tool for compassionate self-inquiry and collective remembrance.
